My Stubborn Guitar Story

by admin on April 6, 2011

I’ve always been stubborn with wanting to learn new things. I hated formal education all through school and even in university. I always felt that I could do it on my own, didn’t want any help and I’d be better for it. This was no different when I wanted to learn to play guitar then anything else.

My father played the guitar and when I was about 12 he offered to begin teaching me a bit. He no more had given me 2 lessons when I was fed up and decided that I didn’t want to follow through with it. This led to me calling myself a guitar player for the next 10 years or so but really not having any skill to be able to do it.

It wasn’t until my mid twenties that I finally decided I was going to try and get a bit serious about playing the guitar. I started learning some tougher songs that pressed my skill levels. This pushed me to learn new chords and practice. I finally decided that I should probably take a bit of instruction since I was going to be stuck at the level I was then unless I took it upon myself to learn more.

That’s when I looked for some guitar lessons online. I’d been unconventional the whole time so it didn’t make sense that I would rush off and take formal private guitar lessons. After all I was busy, had a job and did everything else on the Internet why not learn to play guitar online?

What I found was a lot of crap and it took me a bit of time to find the best lessons for me. What I found though I was happy with.

If you find yourself in a similar place I would suggest you look for some user reviews and also look for a site that offers you some free lessons to see what they are all about. Some of the sites look great but the program or lesson plan just doesn’t take you very far.
